OFFERS A PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP IN BUSINESS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Course: MGT 430, Internship in Business, Credit Hours 3 

Purpose: The course is designed to provide students an opportunity to work within the field of their academic major and in a life experiential situation.  Professional experience will be gained by working in either the public or private sector.  Assignments will be made commensurate with the academic achievements and abilities of the interns.  Applicable academic areas are management, marketing, computer information systems, accounting, and finance. 

Qualifications:  The student will have satisfactorily completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of course work and at least 12 hours in his/her major field of study.  Completed course work will be compatible with the functional area assigned and the student must be recommended by both his/her academic advisor and the internship coordinator before placement. 

Placement:  The intern will be expected to provide the agency with a minimum of 12-15 hours a week, depending on the needs of the activity.  The on-site supervisor will be responsible for completing an end-of-term evaluation on the intern.  Agencies accepting interns are not required to compensate them for their work.  The intern receives a grade and three credit hours toward his/her business major with a satisfactory or higher evaluation.

 Length of Assignment:  One academic term, approximately 14-15 weeks.  Internships will be offered in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters to qualified students in the College of Business Administration. 

Current Participants:  ASU’s Continuing Education Division, Fiscal Affairs, and Management Information Systems Office; Kelley’s Accounting; St. Bede’s Parish Office; Resurrection Mission; Kelly Services; Mallory Realty Company; and Regions Bankcard Center.
