COBA Students Tour Korea & China 2010

Students and faculty from ASU's College of Business Administration will travel to South Korea and China as part of the prestigious Business and International Education Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Alabama State University’s College of Business Administration (COBA) is sponsoring a 10-day “Study Tour to South Korea and China” from March 12-21. 

The study tour is a result of COBA being awarded the prestigious Business and International Education (BIE) Grant from the United States Department of Education.

The grant provides funding for seven ASU students, five ASU faculty members and a high school teacher from Lowndes County Career Technical Center.

This is the third year that ASU students and faculty members will travel to this region.

ASU students selected for the tour this year are Bradley Duncan, a junior, management major; Ashton Hardwick, a junior, accounting major; Lakita Horton, a senior, graphic arts major; Lakendrick Knight, a junior, computer information systems major; Cara Mitchell, a junior, business administration major; Veronica Pope, a junior, accounting major; and Sherrell Washington, a senior, finance major.

Faculty members from the College of Business Administration include Dr. Kamal Hingorani, Dr. Jiin Wang, Dr. Sun Gi Chun, Janel Bell-Haynes and Charlie Hardy. Kenneth Fair, a high school teacher from Lowndes County, also will be traveling with the group.

Tour Details

The first day of the tour will be spent in Seoul, South Korea, visiting popular attractions. Day two will involve travel from Seoul to Ulsan, where the group will tour the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Co. and the Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.

They will then travel to Pohang to visit POSCO, which is the world’s second largest steelmaker and Asia’s most profitable steelmaker. At the end of the day, they will return to Seoul on the Korean Train Express (KTE), which can travel over 350km per hour.

Day four will include a visit to Chung-Ang University and a visit to Panmunjom, which is the "truce village" that straddles the border between North Korea and South Korea.

On the final day in Korea, participants will shop and visit the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ). They will later take a flight to Shanghai, China.

The first day in China, the group will visit the Korean Development Bank, the Pudong Financial Area and the Shanghai Steel Co. They will visit Fudan University and Zhou Zhang on the second day. The third day, they will visit the Yu Garden, Bund Excursion Ship and Nanjing Street.
