ASU Sponsors Statewide Veterans Small Business Opportunity Conference
August 28-29, 2007

Alabama State University’s Small Business Development Center and the
Maxwell Air Force Base Contracting Office hosted its Annual Statewide
Veterans Small Business Opportunity Conference at the Maxwell Air Force
Base Officers’ Club from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 28 and 29, 2007.
There were more than 200 participants and 15 vendors in attendance for
this two day event.
The purpose of the conference was to inform veterans and the public of
procurement and contracting opportunities with federal, state and local
Government agencies.
Two additional
features at this year’s event included franchising opportunities through
the private sector and loan opportunities through U.S. Small Business
Administration Patriot Express Loans.
SBA Patriot Express Loans offers loans up to $500,000 for
veterans and members of the military community wanting to establish or
expand small businesses.
The conference also provided attendees pertinent information on
obtaining contracts and subcontracts.
Vendors in attendance were Alabama Power Company, Alabama
Development Office, Alabama State University Purchasing, State of
Alabama Revenue Services, Internal Revenue Service, US Veterans Affairs,
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Works of Alabama, Greater Montgomery Area
Chamber of Commerce, Troy Small Business Development Center, U.S. Small
Business Administration, SCORE, State of Alabama Office of Small
Business Advocacy, Maxwell Air Force Base Family Support Center, United
State Senate, Alabama State University DBE Supportive Services and The
Entrepreneur’s Source.
